About Us — Cyrene by Elsie

A Curator's Eye for Quiet Strength

Cyrene was a huntress in Greek mythology — not chosen for her beauty, but for the lion she wrestled and won against. Apollo saw that, and made her a queen. That's the version of "shine" this brand is named for: not ornamental, but earned. We hope the women who wear Cyrene carry a bit of that — in how they look, how they work, how they love, how they show up.

What We Curate

Cyrene by Elsie works mostly as a curator, not a manufacturer. Most of what you'll find here is selected — pulled from independent ateliers and small studios across China, chosen piece by piece for a quiet, confident character rather than maximum output. A small number of designs are created in-house; the rest carry the name of the makers behind them, because we think they deserve the credit.

We're based in Shanghai, near Zhuji, the source of more freshwater pearls than anywhere else on earth. That proximity means we see pearls early, before they're sorted into the broader market — and it means we get to work directly with the people making them, rather than through layers of distributors.

Why Slow

We are not a factory. Nothing here is made to order at scale. Some pieces exist in small numbers; a few exist only once. We'd rather curate less and mean it more — that's what we call slow beauty.

Who's Behind This

Cyrene by Elsie is run by Elsie, born and raised in Shanghai. Before this, she spent years in media planning — agency side and client side both — work that was less about jewelry and more about how people see things, and why. This is, in part, an extension of that: using jewelry as a small, wearable way to trade aesthetics across cultures, one piece at a time.
